Photos of Italy taken on Walks in the Cities Towns & Villages of Italia

Welcome to Italy in Photos, where we invite you to delve into the wonderful treasures of Lenno: – Lenno is a town located on the western shore of Lake Como, in the Lombardy region of Italy. The town is situated near the centre of the lake and is known for its picturesque beauty and rich history. Lenno is an ideal destination for those who want to experience the natural beauty of Italy and explore its cultural heritage. The town is home to several historic sites, including the Church of Saint Stephen and the Baptistery. The octagonal Baptistery was built in the 11th century and features several frescoes that were added during the baroque period. The Church of Saint Stephen, on the other hand, was partly rebuilt in the 16th-17th centuries and is mostly baroque style. The church’s crypt, which is of the Romanesque style, dates to the 11th century and still retains the layout of the Roman baths that stood here 2000 years ago. Lenno is also famous for its beautiful promenade along the edge of the lake, which offers stunning views of the forested hills across the lake and the small harbour. The promenade is shaded by trees and leads to a small beach at the end. The town’s historic centre, Villa, is accessed by a small road on the right as you follow the path towards the boat departures for Villa Balbianello.  Lenno is a beautiful town that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Whether you’re interested in exploring historic sites, enjoying the natural beauty of the lake, or simply relaxing on the beach, Lenno has something for everyone.

The square is named after the date of the Fascist coup d’état in 1922, when Benito Mussolini and his followers marched on Rome and seized power. The square is the main attraction of Lenno, as it hosts a weekly market every Tuesday, where you can find various products such as vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, sweets, clothes, shoes, and more. The square is also the starting point for a walk along the lakefront that leads to the Villa del Balbianello, (Photos 5-6) – Via Carlo Lomazzi s a street in Lenno which runs from Via G. It is located on the tip of a small, wooded peninsula called Dosso d’Avedo, near the town of Lenno. The villa has a rich and fascinating history, as it was once a Franciscan monastery, then a summer residence of a cardinal, a centre of republican activity, and finally the home of an explorer and collector. The villa is famous for its elaborate terraced gardens, which offer breathtaking views of the lake and the mountains. The villa also contains a museum that displays the artifacts and memorabilia of the last owner, Count Guido Monzino, who led the first Italian expedition to climb Mount Everest. The villa has been used as a filming location for several movies, such as Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Casino Royale. (Photos 24 to 40)
