Walk from Villa Carlotta to Lenno

Villa Carlotta is a magnificent villa and botanical garden located on the shores of Lake Como in Northern Italy. It is a place where art and nature meet, offering visitors a unique experience of beauty and culture. The villa was built in the 17th century by the wealthy Clerici family, who decorated it with exquisite artworks and furnishings. Later, it was acquired by the Sommariva family, who added more sculptures and paintings by renowned artists such as Antonio Canova and Francesco Hayez. The villa was named after Carlotta, the daughter of Princess Marianne of Prussia, who received it as a wedding gift from her mother in 1843. Carlotta and her husband, George II of Saxony-Meiningen, were passionate about botany and transformed the garden into a romantic paradise, with rare plants, flowers, and trees from all over the world. Today, Villa Carlotta is a museum that showcases the artistic and historical heritage of its former owners, as well as a botanical garden that boasts over 500 species of plants, including azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias, citrus fruits, and bamboo. Visitors can admire the elegant rooms of the villa, filled with paintings, sculptures, furniture, and porcelain, as well as the chapel and the mausoleum of the Sommariva family. They can also explore the garden, which offers stunning views of the lake and the mountains and enjoy the seasonal blooms and fragrances. Villa Carlotta is a must-see attraction for anyone who loves art, nature, and history. It is open to the public from March to November and hosts various events and exhibitions throughout the year.
