Santa Margherita Ligure is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Genova in the Italian region Liguria, located about 35 kilometres southeast of Genova, in the area traditionally known as Tigullio. It is located on the shores of the Ligurian Sea, an arm of the Mediterranean, and has a port used for fishing and tourist trips. A part of the comune is within the Regional Natural Park of Portofino. Santa Margherita Ligure borders the following municipalities: Camogli, Portofino, Rapallo. The town has a year-round population of 8,935 that increases threefold in the summer months.

The commune also consists of three frazioni, Paraggi, Nozarego and San Lorenzo della Costa as well as a variety of Localities ranging from Pedale a tourist attraction on the beach with a small housing district to Pero on a road spur just off of Via Aurelia near San Lorenzo to Gave a collection of small buildings on a hiking trail. Is is a large tourist attraction helped by its location on the Golf of Tigullio, its proximity to Portofino and the cliffs and mountains within its borders.  Wikipedia
