Sestri Levante

Welcome to Italy in Photos, where we invite you to embark on a journey through Sestri Levante: – Sestri Levante is a charming town located in the Metropolitan City of Genoa, Liguria, Italy. It is situated on a promontory and is approximately 40 km (25 miles) southeast of Genoa. The town is divided into two bays: Baia delle Favole (Bay of the Fables) and Baia del Silenzio (Bay of Silence). The former was named in honor of Danish writer, Hans Christian Andersen, who lived in Sestri Levante for a short time in 1833. The town has a refined island atmosphere and is known for its stunning views. It is a popular tourist destination among Italians and is slowly gaining popularity among international tourists. The town has a rich history as an ancient maritime and merchant centre. It was originally a small island with a promontory, which was later connected to the mainland. In Roman times, it was known as Segesta Tigullorum (or Tigulliorum) or simply Segesta, but the place was nearly abandoned when the Roman empire collapsed. It seems to have belonged to the Ligurian tribe of the Tigullii. The town has a romantic centro storico and a scenic hiking path to Portofino and Cinque Terre. It is a pastel place with nice beaches and has slowly turned into a tourist hotspot, developing an old and a new town. The people of Sestri Levante often use the expression: “Sestri è scialla”. This expression symbolizes the quiet nature of the city of Sestri Levante. Sestri Levante is a beautiful town that offers a perfect blend of history, culture, and natural beauty. It is a must-visit destination for anyone who wants to experience the charm of the Italian Riviera.
