This six‑metre metal installation evokes Lake Garda’s nautical heritage and sits prominently on the refreshed lakeside terrace.
Situated on the southwestern shore of Lake Garda, Desenzano del Garda boasts a charming harbour the Porto di Desenzano, that serves as a vital gateway to some of northern Italy’s most scenic lakeside destinations. Built originally under Venetian influence in the 15th century and later rebuilt in the 19th century, the port blends historic character with modern functionality. From its old quay and lighthouse to wide jetties accommodating today’s ferries and hydrofoils. Operated by Navigazione Laghi, the public transport system on Lake Garda, offers frequent passenger ferry services that connect Desenzano with towns like Peschiera, Sirmione, Lazise, Bardolino, Garda, Salò, Malcesine, and Riva del Garda. Two service types are available: the slower Battelli or motonavi, which stop at most lakeside towns, and faster hydrofoils and catamarans offering fewer stops for a speedier journey — usually with a small surcharge.

Villa Romana di Desenzano del Garda
The Villa Romana di Desenzano del Garda is one of the most fascinating archaeological treasures in northern Italy and a remarkable testament to the refined lifestyle of the Roman elite who once lived along the shores of Lake Garda. Located in the heart of Desenzano, just a short walk from the modern town centre, the villa dates back to the late first century CE and was inhabited through the fourth century. It is considered one of the most important examples of a Roman residential complex in northern Italy, admired for its well-preserved mosaics, architectural remains, and striking views over the lake.
The villa was originally part of a large and elegant lakeside estate that belonged to a wealthy Roman family. Its design reveals the sophistication and comfort typical of high-status Roman homes, featuring spacious courtyards, baths, living quarters, and reception rooms adorned with intricate geometric and figurative mosaics. These mosaics, still visible today, depict mythological scenes, hunting scenes, and decorative motifs that highlight the artistic skill of ancient craftsmen.
